EGG HARBOR CITY – A fire at a house at 214 Washington Ave. has been deemed suspicious, according to the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office.
According to Spokesman Jay McKeen, there were two bodies discovered in the home.
“The victims’ identity yet to be determined,” he said.
Neighbors who live across the street from the one-and-a-half-story bungalow, which had hearts painted on its front steps, said they did not know the people who lived there and that they stayed to themselves. One neighbor who preferred to remain anonymous said he believed the residents include a couple in their 40s with teenage children who were often seen going in and out of the property.

A third victim, who survived the fire, was hospitalized.

Police say the man, who is believed to be the deceased woman's boyfriend, was conscious and talking to responders as he was about to be transported to the hospital.

Egg Harbor City Police Sgt. Dylan Hutton explains, "I don't want to put words into his mouth because I didn't hear what he said, but he was claiming someone broke into the house."
