An Egg Harbor City man was indicted Wednesday in the 2014 killing of his live-in girlfriend and her young son.
Joseph Palmer, 39, is accused of
killing Michelle Heist Pabst and her 7-year-old son, Gavin Pabst, then
setting the home on fire Nov. 12, 2014.
Heist Pabst died of multiple sharp and blunt-force injuries, while her son was stabbed to death, according to the autopsies.
Police and firefighters were
called to the Washington Avenue home at 8:11 a.m., for a fire. Palmer
was found outside the home, and was taken to AtlantiCare Regional
Medical Center’s City Campus in Atlantic City to be treated for his
injuries.
After the fire was put out, the woman and child were found inside.
At 12:30 p.m. Nov. 14, 2014,
Major Crimes detectives with the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office
arrested Palmer as he was discharged from the hospital.
A grand jury indicted him
Wednesday on two counts of murder, and one count of aggravated arson. He
also was charged with two counts of possession of a weapon for an
unlawful purpose for the knife and hammer believed used in the killings.
Palmer remains jailed on $2 million full cash bail.
