Michael Castro, 33, spent 14
months in jail on charges he killed 77-year-old John Kingsbury in the
man’s Mullica Township home Feb. 5, 2012.
He
was freed on bail this July, after Superior Court Judge Bernard DeLury
dismissed the indictment, saying the lead detective gave inaccurate
information to the grand jurors. When the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s
Office failed to re-present the case to a new grand jury, all
restrictions were lifted from Castro.

“Who is going to work with me
now?” the martial arts instuctor asked. “How am I supposed to get hired
somewhere with this on my record?”
Castro was getting ready to start a new martial arts business in Florida when he was arrested April 9, 2013.
He
lost his more than $94,000 investment and an additional $6,300 when he
had to vacate his apartment and his family sold his possessions,
according to a tort claim filed Sept. 5.
Castro’s
legal bills for his criminal defense were about $120,000, and he
anticipates fighting the civil suit could be more than a half-million
dollars. A loan from family is $16,000. Economic losses are at least
$20,000, and expected to increase. “In the tens of thousands of dollars
for the costs of uninsured medical treatment by a psychiatrist,” the
tort claim states.
“I
suffered extreme mental anguish and psychological trauma both from the
conditions of my confinement and the prospect of life imprisonment for a
crime that I did not commit,” Castro writes in the tort claim.
While the filing says that’s difficult to put a price on, it says it should exceed $10 million.

The prosecutor's office has made some pretty controversial actions lately
Instead of this office being filled by Trenton, Atlantic County should have the right to make the appointment since we pay the salary of the Prosecutors position and I have a lot more faith in Denny Levinson than Trenton.
