Excerpts
“For the past five-and-a-half years since April Kauffman was been found shot to death inside her home in Linwood, New Jersey, there has been little movement in this case and no arrests have been made in connection with the murder. That is, until today,” Atlantic County Prosecutor Damon G. Tyner said during a press conference Tuesday at his office.
Tyner
said April Kauffman knew about illegal drug activity, was threatening
divorce and was threatening to go to authorities. In response, Tyner
said Kauffman found someone who would kill his wife.
“He was intent to rather have her killed
as opposed to losing his financial empire, as he described it to
several individuals,” Tyner said Tuesday.
Tyner said Kauffman, along with seven others, were charged Tuesday with conspiracy and racketeering.
“We are very excited today because this has gone on for far too long,” Tyner said.
Tyner described the conspiracy and identified Ferdinand Augello, 61 of the Petersburg section of Upper Township as Kauffman's alleged co-conspirator in both the drug ring and the murder-for-hire. The prescription opioid drug ring itself included more than 200 recruiters, Tyner said.

According
to Tyner, after months of unsuccessfully attempting to hire a hitman,
Augello found Francis Mullholland, a friend of a Pagan associate, to
shoot and kill April Kauffman in exchange for $20,000.
Mullholland died of a drug overdose in October 2013, Tyner said.
The drug enterprise continued for the five years following the murder, he said. All the people involved were either current members, former members, or associates of the Pagan Outlaw Motorcycle Gang.
Tyner alleged that James Kauffman and Ferdinand Augello had a relationship prior to 2011 that was centered around Kauffman’s medical practice. In the early morning hours of May 10, 2012, Tyner said Mullholland was given a ride to the Kauffman residence, but did not specify by whom.

"The
doors were left open and Frank Mullholland was given a gun to carry out
his task. He went inside and he shot April Kauffman twice," Tyner said.
Francis Mullholland has stated that he received approximately $20,000 in cash for his role, he said.
At
the time of the murder, it was reported that April Kauffman was found
face-down by a caretaker in her bedroom. Kauffman was at work at the
time, but rushed home to the scene. After being interviewed by police,
Kauffman hired Jacobs as his attorney.
