AtlantiCare awarded 60 South Jersey primary and secondary schools Tuesday with grants to support school garden and wellness activities.
The
AtlantiCare Healthy Schools, Healthy Children program gave elementary,
middle and high schools in Atlantic, Cape May and Ocean counties
received mini-grants totaling $51,000 to support new and existing school
gardens and wellness activities for the 2017-2017 school year.
“We’re
excited to continue supporting school gardening programs by awarding
these mini-grants,” said Laura Engelmann, AtlantiCare community health
and wellness manager.
Officials said the awards go to schools that demonstrated innovative initiatives aimed at encouraging physical activity and healthy eating habits among students, their families and school staff.
