Mullica Youth Coach Behind Bars

MAYS LANDING, N.J., (CBS) — A youth coach is behind bars on Tuesday. Multiple police departments are investigating along with the Department of Children and Families.

On Saturday morning, it was all trophies and pizza for youth coach, Sinclair Ceasar. Now, he’s in Atlantic County jail and just a quick search of his criminal history, you would find at least one event that would make parents say he should not have been around kids.

Parents in Mullica Township say Ceasar, 52, has been involved in coaching youth sports for several years.

Just Saturday morning, he coached a boys four and five-year-old basketball game at the Mullica Township School. Later that day, police say he exchanged his clipboard for handcuffs.

He was arrested by Hamilton Township Police on the charge of aggravated sexual contact with a 13-year-old girl. It turns out it isn’t his first run-in with the law.

Records show that in 2006, he was charged with sexual assault, later pleading guilty to the lesser charge of endangering the welfare of a child and serving more than 400 days in jail.

“It’s pretty disturbing that a more thorough background check wasn’t done being that he had a prior arrest,” Jillian Gallagher, a local parent said.

Despite numerous attempts to reach officials with the Mullica Township Recreation Association, Eyewitness News does not know the extent of Ceasar’s coaching or if they do background checks.

The organization is run by volunteers and not governed by the township.
“They got to have a clean record to be coaching children and have authority with the children,” Gallagher said.

Parents say the association needs to make their background check policy clear and if they don’t do checks, they should start.

“I know it costs money to do background checks,” said Alesia Shute, a local parent. “But, it’s all volunteer and we want to trust everybody, but we can’t, obviously. We can’t. It’s terrible.”

Ceasar is on $50,000 bail. Police say that they will not official say how he knew the 13-year-old girl, but they say there is a possibility that he could have other victims and if so, they hope they come forward.

MULLICA ARRESTS MAN FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT ON A MINOR

The incident apparently occurred on November 30th and involved a fifteen year old girl and a 44 year old man who was not a registered Megan’s Law Offender. The arrest warrant was executed on December 1st and Sinclair Ceasar (born 1963) of Adams Circle, Wharton Park, was arrested for sexual assault with force. Due to other allegations regarding the potential concern that there might have been child pornography on Mr. Ceasar’s computer the investigation took some time. No child porn was found of the computer. Because the matter went to the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office as an indictable offense and is unlikely to be down graded the totality of the charges filed against Mr. Ceasar have apparently been filed in Superior Court and not with Mullica’s Municipal Court. Those specifics were not immediately available to GadFly.

I really hope there will be policy changes starting today.

Hard for me to believe that no one ever heard of his prior offense and did not make a simple phone call to police to see if indeed it was true. In todays world its a fact that sexual predators will seek to be in a position to come in contact and then select their victims. If this latest charge is true the man needs help and I feel for his family if he has one.In the meantime background checks are a must.
