Atlantic County Emergency Management Alert

State of Emergency Declared for N.J.

Residents Urged to Begin Storm Preparations

While the exact track of Hurricane Joaquin (cat. 4  & rising) remains uncertain at this time, there is the strong potential for heavy rain, coastal flooding and high winds for our area beginning with today’s storm system followed by Joaquin’s move up the mid-Atlantic region this weekend.

Atlantic County emergency management officials continue to track and monitor the progress of Hurricane Joaquin. At this time residents are encouraged to stay informed and to discuss emergency plans with family members, including preparations for pets. They should also review and replenish their disaster supply kits. A complete list of items to include in a kit is available online at http://www.readyatlantic.org/ where one can also find evacuation routes, preparedness information for those with special needs, contact information for local emergency management offices and more.

Community Alert:
Now is the time to start planning for a several day weather event with the approaching storms. The track of Hurricane Joaquin remains uncertain at this point however we will be seeing several more inches of rain over the next few days in advance of the hurricane. If Hurricane Joaquin hits the South Jersey and the Mullica Township area early next week residents should expect conditions similar to Hurricane Sandy which were widespread power losses and widespread river flooding over several tide cycles. Residents should prepare themselves by securing items outside of their homes that can be carried by wind and flooding, clear out gutters and downspouts, make sure drainage areas around your property are free from debris
