South Jersey Heroin Epidemic
EGG HARBOR TWP. -
In Egg Harbor Township, police say they are targeting the growing heroin epidemic that is running rampant in South Jersey.
Egg Harbor Township Police Detective Captain, Christopher Ruef, said, "Today you can get it from anywhere from $25 to $35 dollars a gram, so it's a lot cheaper than it used to be."
In 2011 and 2012 combined, Egg Harbor Township police seized 595 bags of heroin. But last year, they seized 3,835 bags – which is over six times as many packets as the previous two years combined.
