Ballot Lawsuit
Gary Stein, 57, of Mullica Township, an independent candidate for General Assembly, has sued Atlantic County Clerk Edward McGettigan over the design of New Jersey's election ballot.
In the suit filed July 15, Stein wrote that the current ballot structure puts candidates at a disadvantage and disenfranchises voters because it groups together disparate candidates linked by the same major party.
Stein's suit asked the court to require that candidates be grouped for office in a box, with the order randomly chosen by lottery.
Stein said no other American state or territory uses a similarly constructed ballot as N.J.. He argued that access to the vertical column, or "the line", helps political parties maintain their power because it subtly steers voters toward favorite candidates in the primary elections and candidates of the same party in the general election.

Can you believe after 5 yrs of endlessly running for elected office, I finally made my way over to this site? Thank you for posting yesterdays article. I hope folks take time to go to link because there's a lot more info if you go to the on-line edition. It's there in the comments following the article. That said, I'll check around this great blog, dedicated to Larry Angel
