by a car and killed Thursday afternoon near the Boyer Avenue playing
fields on Moss Mill Road after retrieving his family’s mail, police said
Friday.
Christopher Sacco, 9,
lived on Moss Mill and was struck while walking back across the road
from the mailbox at 4:39 p.m. Thursday, police said.
Sacco,
a fourth-grade student at Warren E. Sooy Elementary School, was a
member of the Kiwanis Hammonton Little League team, the Hammonton Hawks

A Go Fund Me page has been set up to
assist the family, “Frank Sacco, (Big Fa), Maryanne Sacco (nee

other expenses incurred with the sudden passing of Christopher,” the
page says.
It had raised $11,821 from 150 people in just four hours, as of about 5:30 p.m. Friday.
The
Hammonton Police Facebook page has a photo of Sacco with the message,

lives were touched by Chris.”
Police

identify, as of Friday afternoon, and an investigation is continuing.
Patrolman
Jason Rigby is the traffic investigator on the case, working in
conjunction with the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office in the
investigation, police said.

A
few months ago the town suffered the tragic loss of Christopher Sacco.
Christopher had always expressed to Patrolman Sbarra about how much he
wanted to be a police officer. Christopher had not only hoped to work
with Patrolman Sbarra, but he even joked about being his boss one day!
Knowing Christopher desired to become a police officer Chief Jones and
Patrolman Sbarra made that happen. On July 23, 2017, Christopher was
given the title of Patrolman and his family recieved his badge; badge
#99. The badge number was immideitly retired upon issuance. Our friends
at the New Jersey State Police also participated and provided the family
with two certificates in honor of Christopher. It's now Christopher's
job to keep us safe from the sky!
