Transcript of President Trump's Inaugural Address

"Chief Justice Roberts, President Carter, President Clinton, President Bush, President Obama, fellow Americans and people of the world, thank you.

We, the citizens of America, are now joined in a great national effort to rebuild our country and restore its promise for all of our people.

Together, we will determine the course of America and the world for many, many years to come. We will face challenges. We will confront hardships. But we will get the job done.

Every four years we gather on these steps to carry out the orderly and peaceful transfer of power.

And we are grateful to President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama for their gracious aid throughout this transition.

They have been magnificent.

Thank you.

Today's ceremony, however, has a very special meaning because today we are not merely transferring power from one administration to another or from one party to another, but we are transferring power from Washington, D.C., and giving it back to you, the people.

For too long, a small group in our nation's capital has reaped the rewards of government while the people have bore the cost. Washington flourished, but the people did not share in its wealth. Politicians prospered but the jobs left and the factories closed.

The establishment protected itself, but not the citizens of our country. Their victories have not been your victories. Their triumphs have not been your triumphs. And while they celebrated in our nation's capital, there was little to celebrate for struggling families all across our land.

That all changes starting right here and right now, because this moment is your moment.

 It belongs to you.

It belongs to everyone gathered here today and everyone watching all across America.

This is your day.

This is your celebration.

And this, the United States of America, is your country.

What truly matters is not which party controls our government, but whether our government is controlled by the people.

January 20th, 2017, will be remembered as the day the people became the rulers of this nation again.

The forgotten men and women of our country will be forgotten no longer. Everyone is listening to you now. You came by the tens of millions to become part of a historic movement, the likes of which the world has never seen before.

At the center of this movement is a crucial conviction that a nation exists to serve its citizens. Americans want great schools for their children, safe neighborhoods for their families and good jobs for themselves.

These are just and reasonable demands of righteous people and a righteous public.

But for too many of our citizens, a different reality exists.

Mothers and children trapped in poverty in our inner cities, rusted out factories scattered like tombstones across the landscape of our nation.

An education system flush with cash but which leaves our young and beautiful students deprived of all knowledge.

And the crime and the gangs and the drugs that have stolen too many lives and robbed our country of so much unrealized potential. This American carnage stops right here and stops right now.

We are one nation, and their pain is our pain.

Their dreams are our dreams, and their success will be our success. We share one heart, one home and one glorious destiny.

The oath of office I take today is an oath of allegiance to all Americans.

For many decades we've enriched foreign industry at the expense of American industry, subsidized the armies of other countries while allowing for the very sad depletion of our military.

We've defended other nations' borders while refusing to defend our own. And we've spent trillions and trillions of dollars overseas while America's infrastructure has fallen into disrepair and decay.

We've made other countries rich while the wealth, strength and confidence of our country has dissipated over the horizon.

One by one, the factories shuttered and left our shores with not even a thought about the millions and millions of American workers that were left behind.

The wealth of our middle class has been ripped from their homes and then redistributed all across the world. But that is the past, and now we are looking only to the future.

We assembled here today are issuing a new decree to be heard in every city, in every foreign capital and in every hall of power. From this day forward, a new vision will govern our land.

From this day forward, it's going to be only America first, America first. Every decision on trade, on taxes, on immigration, on foreign affairs will be made to benefit American workers and American families. We must protect our borders from the ravages of other countries making our product, stealing our companies and destroying our jobs.

Protection will lead to great prosperity and strength. I will fight for you with every breath in my body, and I will never ever let you down.

America will start winning again, winning like never before.

We will bring back our jobs.

We will bring back our borders.

We will bring back our wealth, and we will bring back our dreams.

We will build new roads and highways and bridges and airports and tunnels and railways all across our wonderful nation.

We will get our people off of welfare and back to work, rebuilding our country with American hands and American labor.

We will follow two simple rules: Buy American and hire American.

We will seek friendship and goodwill with the nations of the world, but we do so with the understanding that it is the right of all nations to put their own interests first.

We do not seek to impose our way of life on anyone, but rather to let it shine as an example.

We will shine for everyone to follow.

We will re-enforce old alliances and form new ones and unite the civilized world against radical Islamic terrorism, which we will eradicate completely from the face of the earth.

At the bedrock of our politics will be a total allegiance to the United States of America, and through our loyalty to our country we will rediscover our loyalty to each other.

When you open your heart to patriotism, there is no room for prejudice.

The Bible tells us how good and pleasant it is when God's people live together in unity. We must speak our minds openly, debate our disagreements honestly, but always pursue solidarity. When America is united, America is totally unstoppable. There should be no fear. We are protected and we will always be protected. We will be protected by the great men and women of our military and law enforcement. And most importantly, we will be protected by God.

Finally, we must think big and dream even bigger. In America, we understand that a nation is only living as long as it is striving. We will no longer accept politicians who are all talk and no action, constantly complaining but never doing anything about it.

The time for empty talk is over. Now arrives the hour of action.

Do not allow anyone to tell you that it cannot be done. No challenge can match the heart and fight and spirit of America. We will not fail. Our country will thrive and prosper again.

We stand at the birth of a new millennium, ready to unlock the mysteries of space, to free the earth from the miseries of disease, and to harness the energies, industries and technologies of tomorrow.

A new national pride will stir ourselves, lift our sights and heal our divisions. It's time to remember that old wisdom our soldiers will never forget, that whether we are black or brown or white, we all bleed the same red blood of patriots.

We all enjoy the same glorious freedoms and we all salute the same great American flag.

And whether a child is born in the urban sprawl of Detroit or the windswept plains of Nebraska, they look up at the same night sky, they fill their heart with the same dreams and they are infused with the breath of life by the same almighty creator.

So to all Americans in every city near and far, small and large, from mountain to mountain, from ocean to ocean, hear these words: You will never be ignored again. Your voice, your hopes and your dreams will define our American destiny. And your courage and goodness and love will forever guide us along the way.

Together we will make America strong again, we will make America wealthy again, we will make America proud again, we will make America safe again.

And, yes, together we will make America great again.

Thank you.

God bless you.

And God bless America.

Did Gadfly publish President Obama's last two inaugurations speeches? I must have missed them. You do remember Larry Angel was a Democrat, right? How is Trump going to do any of these grand things that were presented in the speech? Oh, that's right. He isn't. He is a snake oil salesman. We aren't "all on welfare". Over half of us don't think that the country was going to hell in a handbasket. You have published the words of someone who says we are going to buy American, who manufacturer clothes MADE IN OTHER COUNTRIES. That speech was angry, pessimistic, and written on a 3rd grade level. He had an opportunity today to shed the angry twitter persona and chose instead to use divisive, narcissistic language. I'm sure Governer Christie loved it. In Larry's memory, please approve this comment. He would have had so much to say about today's events.

The present moderator took over the Blog in 2013 and had no control over what was posted in the past. Yes, I remember that Larry Angel was a Democrat. That didn't stop him from filing charges on Democratic Governor Jon Corzine for not wearing a seat belt. Larry's prime concern was that public officials obey the laws.

It would have been extremely interesting to read what he would have written about the private E mail server installed by Clinton, the missing 33,000 bleach bit deleted E mails, the information revealed from the DNC emails released by Wikileaks which showed how Sanders was sabotaged. I'm sure he would have been interested in the 5 government agencies investigating the Clinton Foundation for a 3 foot long list of charges. Larry was against war. What would have been his opinion of the rise of ISIS because of the Obama/Clinton policies?

Trump is a businessman. He said that the tax codes and regulations make it impossible to make a profit in America. That is why he wants to change everything and bring production and jobs back to the US.

Buckle your seat belt. We are about to go on a wild ride with an angry narcissist who wants to go down in history as the best president this country has ever had. I'm sure he will try his best to accomplish all the grand things presented even with establishment opposition. He will use Twitter to reach out directly to the people to by pass the politically owned media or call out their lies.

I would agree that Larry would have had a lot to say today but I think he would have kept an open mind and gave Trump a chance to prove himself. Larry would have been thrilled to think he has 4 years of daily subject material to write about. American politics has entered a new dimension and it will never be "business as usual" again.

I loved the speech. I turned on CNN & MSNBC during the day to see the reaction. I was horrified by the spin. The main stream media is ripping this country apart. I see why people who only watch these stations or read certain newspapers are getting a false view of Trump. The power brokers are in a frenzy and losing control

Amerika could very well end up just like Nazi Germany did after that country put in a demagogue in 1933. History has a tendency to repeat itself, you know.

As a gay, Sephardic Jew, I doubt very much that Larry "would have kept an open mind and give Trump a chance to prove himself" given what Trump has repeatedly said about deporting millions of Hispanics, building walls, etc.

Just a Republican blog now with links to Fox News, Bretbart and the likes. Quite frankly, I agree with the first commentor. There has never been anything posted on here about Barack Obama. His approval ratings were through the roof as he left, but your approval rating of him was zero. This site went from an informative local site with plenty of local opinions to one that occasionally posts Mullica news, but mostly posts things that can easily be found anywhere on the net and seems to lean quite heavily towards national Republicans. You are wrong about one thing, Larry Angel would never have posted any Trump speech because he knew, from living here and working in the casino industry, what President Trump is really like and how he helped eestry so many small businesses snd jobs without even thinking how it would affect those families.do find it quite odd that there is never anything here on local Republican leaders, but so much on national and your apparent adoration for President Trump. Was the speech fact checked by this site? Site is an overstatement, this is just a blog with the opinion if one, not much worth seeing any longer. Oh, another thing, Larry would never have ever posted any links to Fox News or the like. He never would have bashed Hillary Clinton the way she was bashed here. He would have posted the articles and let people comment, but all that was here was negative comments about her that were based on opinions,
not all facts. When negative things came out about Trump, same type of stuff, never saw that on here.

Decide what you want to be-the Gadfly and stick with local and state news or change the name, start your own conspiracy site. Larry is gone, but he would have never been happy with what you have done to this site Mr. Vitale. If the site was so great, where are all the comments? The insugural speech was the straw that broke the camels back. This blog is off my reading list. Waste of time.

What would Trump know about middle-class? He has no clue how middle-class people live and BELIEVE ME, he doesn't want to know, doesn't care. Lots of tax breaks for rich. All poor or lower income people aren't gangsters either. Not in touch with reality. He helped destroy Atlantic City which, in turn destroyed Atlantic County and that was just as a casino owner. Now he's in charge of the country!! God help us all.

Welfare-does President Trump realize about 80% of welfare (which it's not called anymore and hasn't been for years, again the man is so out of touch) across the country are senior citizens who need the assistance to supplement the Social Security the new regime wants to take away? Heading towards a caste system and good luck, because 99.9% of your readers, they'll fall to the bottom, including the moderator of this site. He's in and we're stuck. If the site is still up in a year, maybe you can do a recap of the President's first year, see if you feel the same way.

I don't want to go on a "ride with an angry narcissist" and see where it takes me. Let me of the crazy train!

Anonymous said...

Where are President Trump's tax returns? If Barack Obama ir ANYONE else hadn't turned them over, that would be questioned here. So I guess you're okay not really knowing about his taxes. Trump played you all. Trump wanted the whole wedding ceremony, but not the marriage.

Moderator said...

Well, I'm sorry but we're all on the same train for the next 4 years. This was a historical election and we have a divided country.
The speech was posted to try and ease the division. Is transferring power back to the people and away from lifetime millionaire politicians & lobbyists a bad thing?

Why would anyone be against a call for great schools, safe neighborhoods, good paying jobs and building up the middle class?
Who wants inner cities filled with gang wars and drug traffic? NJ has a severe drug problem which Christie will be talking about for the next year.

Why would anyone be against building up our own military instead of giving trillions of dollars to other countries to subsidize their armies?

Our roads and bridges are in bad shape across this country. What's wrong with calling for fixing our own infrastructure?

Without a border there is no country. Trump is not against Hispanics or anyone else. He is against IllEGAL immigration which is a threat to the safety and economy of the US. He is calling for the enforcement of laws that have been on the books for decades.
What is it in this speech that is so objectionable?

Trump is not a perfect person and my assumed "love" of him is greatly overestimated. I am not a Republican or a Democrat. I vote for someone based on their views and history regardless of what party they run under.

I read both the liberal and conservative papers and watch the different news channels to see opposing view points in a search for some truth. When I read downright lies and see deliberate deception, I do not trust the news sites. I agree with the 1:20 am comment. Any news network that gives millions in donations to a political candidate is going to be tremendously slanted in their reports.

The FACTS stated about Clinton were not opinion. They were just the tip of a 30 year iceberg and were listed only in relation as to whether Larry would have overlooked her deceptive history. If the DNC had acted honorably and offered a candidate without so many flaws, we might not have Trump right now.

We have a lot of work to do and we might as well join together to make sure that promises are kept. The people across this country who voted for Trump will be the first to rise up strong against him if they feel they have been deceived.

"Any news network that gives millions in donations to a political candidate is going to be tremendously slanted in their reports."
Please back up your statement with facts, or should I assume that are you just BSing?
"Trump is not against Hispanics or anyone else. He is against IllEGAL immigration which is a threat to the safety and economy of the US."
As a nation of immigrants, who made America great and continue to do so, can you not understand the immorality of deporting tens of millions of law-abiding immigrants who have lived, contributed to our economy and raised their families here?
"Why would anyone be against building up our own military instead of giving trillions of dollars to other countries to subsidize their armies?"
Are you just BSing again? The US gives a total of 5.9 billion (not trillions)in military aid to foreign countries, 75% of it going to Israel and Egypt. The US spends about $600 million on defense, 52% of all Federal spending. That's more than the next seven largest spenders, and most of them are allies of the US. You know, I like allies. Why should we be the only policemen of the world? Are you willing to sacrifice just the lives of the youth of our own nation who serve to fight the bullies of the world?
"Is transferring power back to the people and away from lifetime millionaire politicians & lobbyists a bad thing" OMG, have you looked at his cabinet picks? Just about all special interest billionaires and millionaires.
I could go on, but your comments are just so ignorant of the facts, IMHO.

I agree with the 9:17 poster that this site, which uses Larry's namesake, has become nothing but a right wing conspiracy blog that serves no purpose anymore to potential readers searching for Mullica news. It is a waste of time. Maybe it should just be archived.

If Trump is giving control back to the people and away from millionaire politicians, then why is he filling his cabinet with millionaires that have no grasp on the struggle of the common citizen?

His plan for great schools is to appoint a secretary of education who has no direct personal experience with the public school system, or grants, or loans, whose children who have been privileged enough to not have to deal with anything that the average student will deal with. The last thing we need are more "for profit" schools like Trump University.

So far it seems that the only plan to build up the middle class and make us all wealthy is to give tax breaks to the top richest and hope it "trickles down" to the rest of us. We know how that tax plan works already, it doesn't. And then to dismantle the healthcare system, which we all agree has tremendous flaws, but at least it was something to avoid going to the hospital and hoping to get approved for a year of emergency charity care. And hoping the hospital doesn't end up taking your house.

And the whole, using Twitter to bypass public media, why do you think he does that? So that he can say what he wants to the American people, without having it fact checked, or have to answer follow-up questions. It's a one-way communication tool that he can use to put out whatever lies he wants to the American people without having any dissenting discourse. And the day of his inauguration, he sent out 12 tweets. Even my middle schooler understands that there is a time to get off of social media and GET YOUR SHIT DONE!

4:32 pm, Please give an example of right wing conspiracy that you have found on this site.

Moderator said...

4:17pm, You can look up the donation records for the DNC and the Clinton campaign and see the numbers and contributors.
Yes, we are a nation of immigrants but laws were put in place to monitor that immigration. Past administrations ignored the laws and even supported sanctuary cities which encouraged the human dilemma we now face. Trump plans a strong border security that will stop the current influx. His first concern would be deporting hard core illegal criminals. I am sure he will have to work with congress & the senate to devise a plan for the tens of millions, as you say, illegals raising families here. If they are contributing to the society perhaps a fast track to citizenship can be developed so they can contribute to the economy by paying taxes, health insurance, etc. like citizens do. We could eliminate the Federal money sent to support the then unnecessary sanctuary cities. We would need the top minds in the country to correct this problem. No way do I ever see a mass deportation of these people, especially of the kids who grew up here and know nothing else.

According to Trump, we have spent "trillions & trillions" overseas while our own infrastructure has fallen into decline and decay. My eyes skipped a sentence. Sorry.
You say we spend $600 million on defense but our military is depleted and we send 5.9 Billion to foreign counties.
Just a hypothetical question. If you were deeply in debt and was struggling to pay for your mortgage, your house was desperately in need of repairs and you could hardly put food on the table for your kids, would you take out a loan so your neighbor could get new windows and a roof just because you like him? I would think no because you have to have your own house stable in order to help others.

Yes,I've seen Trump's cabinet picks. He is handling his cabinet the same way he has built his world wide businesses. He is finding people who are successful and brilliant and most equipped to handle their positions. Would you rather have establishment politicians with their lobbyist friends in these positions?

Anonymous said...

Just like old times...

Anonymous said...

Again, I would rather not have millionaires in the cabinet that have no idea the struggles and day to day living of the average person.

I'd rather not have a secretary of education who doesn't use public educations, grants, loans, or anything else our students deal with.

Trump uses Twitter to send out information in a one-way stream. That way there isn't fact checking, there isn't follow-up questions, just him ranting and you buying it. Why doesn't he get off social media and RUN THE COUNTRY?

It's become clear that you are going to defend Trump no matter what hapoens and you only seem to claim facts about Clinton tgat are negative because you hate her. Trump thinks and pushed "The National Inquirer" as real news. This site, if you realky wanted it run as a township and informational site shoukd be bipartisan. Pick the type of blog you want to be. I saw nothing about either candidates qualifications here. Even locally, not even a blurb on the candidates running. I get it, TRUMP! TRUMP! TRUMP!, You should contact him, maybe he'll make a donation and tweet about your site as a legitimate news source!

11:20 am, We were given 2 viable choices in this election. Trump became our president. Is he perfect? No, he has flaws. I do plan to keep an open mind and give him more than one day in office to see what he does.

I don't "hate" Clinton. Negative FACTS about her influenced the majority of states to vote against her.
You're right. You didn't see any information about either candidates' qualifications here before the election because the site IS bipartisan.

Locally, ALL candidates are invited to send in any political literature they wish to be posted. Barbara Rheault was the only one to send a political letter in to the blog.

An Inaugural Address of a historic election was posted in the hopes that it would heal some division in that Trump promised to work for All people of this country.

The Blog is run free of charge and doesn't take donations. It's purpose is to inform residents of Mullica about information or events that they might be interested in. Every article has a linked news source.

If Trump could stop with the "yay, I won, you lost" rah-rah rhetoric and tweets, I could give him a shot. At this point in any presidency, the successful candidate is usually saying something to unite the country after difficult campaign ugliness. That speech was not it. I never thought I would be at a place where I long for the days of George W. Bush. Consider this line from Bush's inauguration speech- “What you do is as important as anything government does. I ask you to seek a common good beyond your comfort, to defend needed reforms against easy attacks, to serve your nation, beginning with your neighbor. I ask you to be citizens: Citizens, not spectators; citizens, not subjects; responsible citizens building communities of service and a nation of character.” The best thing that Trump could do right now to unite certainly many citizens to his cause would be to come out against the alt-right sect that has latched onto his presidency. If he could say, " My presidency will not give a platform to white-supremacy, anti-Semitism, white nationalism. Those people are not who I am." I cannot think of why he hasn't done this unless he thinks he cannot win again in four years without them.

I also find it truly disturbing that 24 hours into the term, he is calling a press briefing to squabble over the size of the audience at his inauguration. Not only because, as president, he is going to take a lot of criticism and he doesn't handle that well at all. But also, you don't get to make up alternative facts! Some other countries that I can think of that control the news and put out "alternative facts"- North Korea, China, Russia. Is this what we want? Questioning the president when he says something is Patriotic! If the President tells you something, take two seconds to google is and see if it's even true. Don't just forward something on Facebook or Twitter because it sounds good.

That quote was very refreshing. Thank you for submitting it. I agree with you that Trump has to stop the rah-rah rhetoric now and get to business.

Portraying Trump as a racist was a campaign tactic used by the left. He has totally denounced the KKK and any other groups with such beliefs. Trump always had great interracial relationships in the business and entertainment world. Years ago he was given an NAACP award for his work in the black communities. Even Jessie Jackson was his friend. Trump himself has said he is the most non-racist person there is. I have seen many black churches and Hispanic communities embrace him. He even said in his rallies that he supports the LGBT communities and received roaring applause.

Trump has a strict Jewish son-in-law and Ivanka has converted and is raising his grandchildren in the Jewish faith. Trump has declared his allegiance to Israel and expressed his outrage at the latest UN Resolution against Israel.

White nationalism is no part of his platform. One of his biggest issues is raising up inner city minorities and giving them safer, drug free neighborhoods and better schools and more jobs.

Right now Trump is in a war with the media. There have been so many lies printed about him that he wants the truth out. Yes, I agree with you that questioning the president or any other elected official is patriotic. I wouldn't trust google anymore for facts. I would go directly to the official videos of the event or the official documents to read the facts about anything I question. I hope one of the first things Trump changes is Obama's executive order that it is ok to let the press publish fake propaganda in America. Like you said, "you don't get to make up alternative facts". That should apply to all media. We, as a free people, deserve the truth from all sources whether we like it or not, only then can true differences of opinion be discussed.

I guess more comments will come in saying I'm on the Trump bandwagon or TRUMP!TRUMP!TRUMP! Let me say I am only trying to let truth come out and I wish people would not just read headlines or accept TV commentators opinions as truth.
Trump has a bitter battle ahead of him, not only from the media & democrats but also establishment republicans who don't want their profitable boat rocked.

Your argument does not hold any water and can be easily and thoroughly discredited.

4:27pm Don't hold back. Discredit the argument that lies have been spoken by the media.
I will make one correction. I stated that the act to publish and spread propaganda in America was an executive order. It was passed by Congress and the Senate on 12/29/12 under the Obama Administration. HR-4310, NDAA, Section 1078. There are numerous news sources about it. I would link some but then I would be accused of linking a liberal or conservative source. Do your own investigations.
