Gov. Chris Christie says that work will begin immediately on a complete renovation of the New Jersey statehouse.

Christie said Tuesday that staff will be moved into other office space in Trenton by July for a four-year, $300 million project. Parts of the building date to the 18th century.

He says the current condition of the statehouse is shameful and hasn't had a major upgrade since 1958. He says that the part of the building used by the executive branch doesn't have fire sprinklers and there are a number of code violations.

The Republican is speaking Tuesday in the Statehouse Rotunda.

Christie says that workers and tourists shouldn't have to worry about being unsafe in the building.

He says the portion of the building used by the Legislature won't be affected.

Where is this money coming from? Christie wants to decimate our Abbott school districts, he has left us with unfunded public pension obligations, our roads & bridges are falling apart, our property taxes are sky high. Is he going to borrow from the new gas tax fund that was supposed to be spent on our infrastructure? He didn't give a clue how this will be funded. Now we will sit back and see which of his cronies will get the lucrative construction contracts. Why does he get to decide where to spend this massive amount of money? Don't our Congressmen, Senators, Freeholders, Assemblymen or we, the people, have a voice against this bully dictator?

Next year,he'll be a private citizen looking for a job. He only has one more year to drain us completely dry & make new connections. He botched his connections with the Port Authority mess. He got stepped on by Trump for trying to put his buddy lobbyists on the Transition team. I'm sure his lawyers appreciate the 11 million plus they got to defend him but that doesn't mean they want to hire him and sully their firm. 300 million in contracts might buy him a fairly secure future in the private sector.
Maybe we'll get lucky and that citizen complaint will land him in jail for 5 years for official misconduct.
