New Jersey voters cemented Hillary Clinton’s hold on the Democratic presidential nomination Tuesday and delivered Donald Trump another huge victory in the Republican primary.
Clinton, a former secretary of
state, senator and first lady, won the majority of the state's
Democratic 126 pledged delegates in defeating U.S. Senator Bernie
Sanders, of Vermont. Clinton's win in New Jersey came a day after she
secured the 2,383 delegates needed for the nomination, according to an
Associated Press tally.
Trump took all 51 of the state’s Republican delegates. The former Atlantic City casino owner and business mogul already had the support of enough delegates to win the Republican nomination for president, With no one else left in the race, Trump padded his lead in Tuesday's contests.
