Cara McCollum, Miss NJ 2013, R.I.P.

With tremendous difficulty and profound personal sadness, SNJ Today, its affiliates and member companies acknowledge the passing of SNJ Today Lead News Anchor Cara McCollum who died today from serious injuries sustained in an automobile accident on February 15.

The entire SNJ Today family extends its condolences to the many loyal viewers, colleagues, friends and family of Cara McCollum. Whether you had the privilege of knowing her or if you enjoyed her newscasts during her all too brief time with us, you know that her smile, determination and sincerity made her a beloved individual.

Cara showed warmth to everyone she met. She was a part of our news team family and we are gratified to have worked with her – even for such a short time. We will miss her terribly. Our thoughts and prayers are especially with her parents Rick and Maureen McCollum and her brother Derick McCollum as well as her boyfriend Keith Jones

So loved, so much to offer, so young. Horrible. It will be hard to even watch SNJ news as her news team struggles to move on. I will never understand why she didn't fasten that seatbelt especially driving a Mustang convertible on an icy road. She connected with many people all in a positive way and we are all affected by such a loss.Ive been thinking about what her parents, her fiancee and her co workers went through and are still going through. She loved her little dog who I'm sure keeps going to the door everytime someone comes to see if its Cara. God help us all get through this. Cara was indeed one of a kind who made everyone's life a little more better in the short time we had her.
