Pinky Kravitz - R.I.P.

Pinky Kravitz, the man often called “Mr. Atlantic City” and a local radio host believed to have set national records for his longevity on the air, died Saturday at age 88.

Kravitz, who usually referred to himself by his lifelong nickname — and reportedly wouldn’t even answer to his given name, Seymour — spent 57 consecutive years as the host of “Pinky’s Corner,” most of them on WOND-AM 1400, now based in Linwood.

His passing was expected since belief is he suffered a disabling stroke after post op which kept him from being active. Its all pretty hush hush but the WOND early cover that he was going to enjoy retirement by playing tennis and strolling didnt wash. Those who knew him knew this was his life, he loved to talk and be at all events which he hadnt been seen since his operation. He had to be totally miserable the past 6 months being so confined. He also was very health minded and took great effort in being healthy and active. The year 2014 wasnt good for him n many ways with the casinos closing, his beloved star status of tv show host being lost and his attack etc etc I hope that AC does the right thing and gets a statue (funds can be donated) of him preferably on the boardwalk next to his deceased daughters bench or next to one of the casinos he broadcast from. He was indeed Mr AC. Oddly enough the icon of Sea Isle City Dr Irene Jameson also just passed about 2 weeks ago.
Goodby Pinky and Goooood Nite!!!!

When his surgery was over he had wanted to broadcast as early as June from his rehab room . didnt happen. Then he called David Spatzs show and planned to return late summer but by late June it was now moved back to late September . He wasn't about to retire. However Facebook postings now say he later suffered a stroke and another heart attack which made it impossible to do any broadcasts or his column. Belief is Pinky wanted this all kept quiet and of course his family respected his wishes to the end. Fully expect some exibit in AC for him and all his service to the city and his listeners.Sure it will include his trademark OGGIs sweaters and his bobbleheads
