HAMMONTON — After about a year of negotiations, Town Council approved a lease for the former Major Muffler building last week, paving the way for Pinelands Distillers to start making bourbon and other liquors there next year.
The building, owned by the town, has been vacant for years.
Brothers Lou Giansante, of
Philadelphia, and Joe Giansante, of Mullica Township, will now work on
getting the federal and state licenses and start to tackle design and
financing plans.
They already had gotten a federal
license for a different location and thought they might just transfer
it. But it took so long to negotiate the lease that the feds eventually
told them to refile, said Lou Giansante.
He estimated work will start on
renovating the building in the spring, and they will start selling their
first product in the fall of 2016.
The building is located on South Egg Harbor Road, within a couple of blocks of downtown and the Eagle Theatre.
