Schroeder Drops Out Of Race For County Executive

MICHELLE BRUNETTI POST, Staff Writer
HAMMONTON — The Democrat challenger for Atlantic County executive has removed himself from the race over health concerns.

“With regret I will be suspending my campaign and dropping out of the race for Atlantic County executive,” James E. Schroeder III, of Hammonton, said in a statement.
He was nominated by the Atlantic County Democrats to run against Republican incumbent Dennis Levinson.
"Everyone who knows him tells me he's a decent man. I wish him well," said Levinson. "I understand, I know the stress and strain of running."

Schroeder is an attorney and pastor, and recently opened Cedar Creek Realty in Egg Harbor City with a partner, real estate broker Harry E. Mehlman Jr.
“After consulting with my doctor, I simply do not have the heart for the campaign and its rigors,” Schroeder said. “I thank all those who have supported me and will continue to try to help people regardless of title or position.”
Schroeder owns the Schroeder Law Group, with offices in Hammonton and Egg Harbor City. He is the municipal prosecutor in Port Republic and Estell Manor, and the land use attorney for Egg Harbor City, Buena Vista Township and Estell Manor.
He is also the president of the Greater Egg Harbor City Chamber of Commerce and a preaching elder at Crossroads Community Church in Indian Mills, Burlington County.
Schroeder and his wife, Amanda, a speech language therapist in the Buena Regional school district, have three children: A.J., 8; Bowen, 6; and Katie, 3.

9/16 /15 No replacement candidate on ballot

County Clerk Ed McGettigan, a Democrat, said Wednesday his office still has not received written notification of Schroeder leaving the race.
Written notification was needed from Schroeder or his father, County Democratic Chairman James Schroeder Jr., by Monday for the ballots to change. That’s when they went to print, he said.
“It appears they are not going to replace Jim Schroeder with another name,” McGettigan said. “They missed the deadline to withdraw (from the ballot). The printing had already begun.”
McGettigan said he’d heard about Schroeder’s decision to leave the race Monday, when it was printed in The Press of Atlantic City, and spoke to Schroeder Jr. about it on the phone. The county Democratic chairman told him there would be no replacement candidate and to leave the ballot as it was, he said.
County legal counsel advised McGettigan he couldn’t change the ballot without the proper written notice from the candidate or party, he said.

He's not an old man, health issues???? What about all the money he wasted from donations for those campaign signs?

He has enough political appointments, he doesn't need to be County Executive. Thank goodness his dad is chair of the county dems. Made his life a breeze.

Wow! Since when do people have to be old to have health issues? How many children die everyday? Schroeder went to college&law school and became a respected attorney, realtor, pastor, familyman and civic leader. Accomplishing all of that certainly isn't a breeze. It takes a whole lot of discipline and hard work. His dad just recently became the Chair of the County Dems. The only thing you can blame his father for is instilling work ethics and a duty of public service into the consciousness of his children.
Even Levinson said everyone who knows Schroeder thinks he's a decent man. Your comments really show your Repub. biases. and jealousy of an accomplished man with high standing in the community.

It is going to be an easy year for Republicans in our area. The polls must have indicated that the Republicans are very far ahead. The money wasted can be saved for next year.
