The Atlantic County Office of Mosquito Control has scheduled ground sprays Sept. 8 and 10 for parts of Ventnor, Margate and Hammonton — part of an ongoing effort to control the pests and reduce the spread of mosquito-borne illnesses.
The Ventnor and Margate ground
spray applications will take place, weather permitting, between 5 and
6:30 a.m. both days. The areas to be treated are bounded by Winchester,
Monmouth and Newark avenues, Ventnor Gardens Plaza, Wissahickon Avenue,
Kingsley Drive, Berkshire Drive, Fulton, Lafayette, Burk and Clemont
avenues.
Hammonton ground spray
applications will be between 7 and 8:30 p.m. The areas to be treated are
bounded by a continuous line following Lakeview Avenue, Lakeshore
Drive, south to Moss Mill Road and back to Lakeview Avenue.
The ground spray will be a low volume aerosol using Scourge, the trade name for resmethrin.
The Environmental Protection
Agency does not require people to relocate or take special precautions
during mosquito control spraying.
The public may choose to minimize
exposure by staying indoors during application. Keeping windows, window
fans and air conditioning off will minimize exposure as well.
Mosquito Control officials remind
residents of the importance of removing standing water from their
properties and cleaning their gutters to eliminate potential mosquito
breeding grounds.
For health information about the
pesticides to be applied in this area, call the Atlantic County Division
of Public Health at 609-645-5971, ext. 4277.
