After seeing the contents of the "Peace & Good Order" Ordinance, I realized that most of the violations were covered by state laws. I understand the desire of the township to try and keep the fines in the Municipality but some things like dogfighting and cockfighting should be kept at state level so criminals can be tracked and given harsher sentences if found in violation again.
I doubt if the cross dressing violation will ever appear on the table again.
I am most concerned about the vagueness of the last section.
"170-7 No person or entity shall behave in a manner which has a negative impact on the quality of life for the citizens, employees, or visitors of Mullica."
What does that mean?? Sure, it sounds good. We will all live in peace and tranquility. I'm sure we can all think of things that aggravate us about our neighbors but we brush it off and go on about our business.
The passage of a vague law like this would enable anyone to sign complaints about you for just about anything. It would be at the judge's discretion if you are found guilty.
Now, today, I'm hearing from a reliable source that there is talk about removing the Municipal Court Judge, Elaine Frick and replacing her with Carol Goloff at the January Reorganization Meeting.
In all good conscience, our Planning Board lawyer & Municipal Prosecutor, Carol Goloff, really shouldn't be employed by the town in any official capacity.
While this statement is not to impinge Ms. Goloff's integrity, she simply carries too many conflicts of interest with her.
She is currently council to the Atlantic County Ethics Council simultaneously while her husband is the book keeper for the majority of republican political candidates in this county.
In good conscience, appointing her to the Municipal Bench would be an insult to the traditional notions of separations of power, and impair the ability to get a fair trial unridden with political influence.
Vague charges that are said to have a negative impact on a person's life could be interpreted not on the facts of the case but who the plaintiff and defendant are.
Am I being paranoid? Maybe, but the appearance of this vague Ordinance right before a judge change is being discussed is a strange co-incidence. Now, I am left wondering what's going on and who "they" are out to get.

Elaine Frick was appointed as Mullica's Municipal Judge in 2012. She known as being fair and honest in her decisions. I don't know why this administration would think of replacing her.
Maybe she is too fair and doesn't bring enough money into the town.
