19 Motor Oils Banned In N.J.


Nearly two dozen motor oils will now be banned from stores here in New Jersey.

Thursday, the New Jersey Offices of Weights and Measures issued a statewide ban on 19 motor oil products, all of which, officials say, failed to match viscosity levels promised on their labels.

Viscosity is the measure of the liquid's tendency to flow, and drivers that use products with incompatible viscosity levels for their vehicles risk engine failure.

Retailers that continue to sell any of the 19 banned products face fines of at least $100 per package or container.
