House Fire On Heidelberg Ave. Was Arson

A Hammonton resident was arrested today on charges he set fire to a Mullica Township house that sustained more than $150,000 worth of damage, Mullica Township police announced Friday.

Christopher E. Smith, 31, was charged with aggravated arson and criminal mischief in connection with the fire at a home on Heidelberg Avenue.

Police allege Smith set fire to the home because of a domestic dispute there Wednesday morning. His arrest comes through a joint investigation by the Mullica Township Police Department's Criminal Investigation Unit, the Atlantic County Prosecutor's Office and the Hamilton Township Police Department Arson Investigation Unit.

Smith was lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility in lieu of $100,000 bail.
