MULLICA TWP. - One person was hospitalized after a fire tore through a Mullica Township home Wednesday afternoon.

Firefighters arrived at the intersection of Moss Mill Road and Heidelberg Avenue to find the house in flames and smoke coming from the roof.

Officials say there were no fire hydrants in the rural neighborhood, and firefighters were forced to bring in tankers to fight the blaze.

One person was taken to the hospital for what authorities are calling only minor injuries.

The home suffered extensive damage and fire officials say it will likely be a total loss.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Firefighters in Mullica Township were extinguishing a blaze at a home on Heidelberg Avenue this afternoon.
A witness took photos on a cell phone showing flames poking through the roof and smoke billowing from the windows of the home, which resembles a log cabin.
Firefighters appeared to have the fire under control before 2 p.m.
The home was nestled in the woods near a rural intersection of Heidelberg Avenue and Moss Mill Road.
Brian O’Shea was visiting his grandfather nearby when he smelled smoke and, shortly later, saw a man on the porch yelling to call 911.
“He was trying to put it out with a garden hose. It wasn’t happening,” said O’Shea, of Absecon.
