Gov. Chris Christie signed into law Thursday a bill that will equip police vehicles with video cameras, holding law enforcement officers accountable and protecting them from disputes with citizens.
Under
the new law, all police vehicles acquired after the bill's effective
date and used primarily for traffic stops must be equipped with a video
camera. Such cameras can be installed on the vehicle or worn by the
officer. The cost of equipment will be covered by an increase of $25 on
the surcharge for a DWI conviction.
