The New Jersey Division of the Drug Enforcement Administration has issued an advisory saying recently-tested heroin is among the purest in the United States.
According to the advisory, New Jersey heroin is 58 percent pure on average, an increase of 12 percent from 2011.
Heroin use is an epidemic in New Jersey, having killed 557 people here last year.
According
to the advisory, the heroin in New Jersey is primarily from South
America and is brought into New Jersey via seaports, international
airports and the interstate highway system.
