Rescued Mini-Horse Dies

The group that rescued two neglected miniature horses from a farm in Gloucester County says that one of the animals has died.

Ellen Strack of the South Jersey Horse Rescue in Egg Harbor City tells NBC40 that one of the miniature horses that came to their facility less than two weeks ago, died on Sunday due to neglect.

Strack said the 8-year-old animal had to be hospitalized due to its condition, which the vet told her was "completely preventable".

Officials say this is the first time in the South Jersey Horse Rescue's history that they have not been able to rehabilitate a horse successfully.

Strack has been trying to get in touch with the state SPCA to get them to launch an investigation into the neglect.

Our dear little friend Ladybug passed away today at Mid Atlantic Equine hospital. We did everything we could for her, but it was not enough. Forgive me if I am silent for a few days.
