Teacher Evaluation Basis Changed

TRENTON, N.J. (AP) - Gov. Chris Christie has agreed to phase in the use of results of new standardized tests for students when it comes to evaluating teachers.
Christie announced the changes Monday after weeks of negotiations with lawmakers and the education community. He's also forming a commission to study standardized tests.
Previously, the state wanted to use measures of how much students' test results had improved to account for 30 percent of some teachers' grades.
But the state will now require that districts use test results for 10 percent of teacher evaluations in the coming school year and 20 percent the year after that.
The concern is largely because New Jersey is debuting new student tests this year that were developed by the Partnership for Assessment of Readiness of College and Careers.
