Burke Farm Preserved

MULLICA TOWNSHIP _ Atlantic County has purchased development easements on the 58.4 acre Burke Farm in Mullica Township for $227,000, a county spokeswoman said Tuesday.

There are now more than 8,000 acres of protected farmland in the county, dedicated for agricultural use, said Public Information Director Linda Gilmore in a written statement.

The property, identified as Block 903, lots 4-6, is owned by Frank L. Burke, III. It is one of seven farms in the township permanently preserved through the Atlantic County Open Space, Farmland and Historic Preservation Trust. Together with two adjacent farms previously preserved, the three parcels represent more than 177 contiguous acres of preserved blueberry farms, according to the county.
They are also adjacent to Wharton State Forest, adding to its more than 122,000 acres of preserved and protected land.
