Party For Mrs. Spangler



SOMERS POINT — Friends are throwing an 80th birthday party for educator and community leader Jeanne Spangler Carlson on Saturday at the local American Legion.

Spangler Carlson, known to Mainland Regional High School students as Mrs. Spangler, led the gifted education program there for years. She left in the early 1980s to work for the State Department of Education promoting gifted education, was curriculum coordinator at several school districts and taught at Temple University.

While working for the state, she worked to pass a law requiring districts to provide for their gifted students, she said. She worked as curriculum coordinator in Brigantine, Mullica Township, Absecon and Salem
An 80th birthday party for Jeanne Spangler Carlson 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.  today at the American Legion, First and Pennsylvania Avenues in Somers Point. Free and open to friends and former students.
