The total tax rate of $4.25 per $100--with school and county taxes included, is up almost 4 percent, and will cost the same average owner $4,930 for the year.
Mayor Jim Brown said lagging tax receipts and drops in other revenue made the tax increase necessary.
"We started out looking at a 12-cent increase," said Brown "but we looked at items that wouldn't have an impact on services" and cut them out of the budget.
In spite of a drop in overall spending from $5.56 million to $5.51 million, the township needs to raise about 3 percent more from the local tax levy, which increases to $3.425 million.

This increase is steeper than I thought and bigger increase than many of our neighboring towns but we do better than AC. When the reval hits there will be a lot of tax appeals because while many folks will take another hit in taxes others can't afford it. I don't think the powers that be care since they can always get tax liens and foreclosures. They know that the money is a given.
