Press Editorial - Mascio's Suspension - A GROSS OVERREACTION

Today's Atlantic City Press's editorial summarizes the events that lead up to the actions taken by Brenda Harring Marro and the Mullica Board of Education against Kelly Mascio.

The Press's opinion is that from all the facts known of this case, the Administration and Board of Education had a "gross overreaction"to the situation.

It can be seen from all the comments from the different Press articles on this story and from the articles spread across the country and the world, the majority of people feel the same way.

The residents of Mullica are shocked and angry by the actions that the Board of Education and the Superintendent have taken against Mascio.  There has been a public outcry that actions be taken against the Administration and that the Board of Education needs to be replaced.
Everyone is hoping that the Commissioner of Education  will show common sense and throw this case out.

Finally some common sense.

I hope the Commissioner has enough courage to do the right thing and not kick this issue down the road to an arbitrator.

I feel so bad for our teachers who have to work in fear and severe oppression everyday. This atmosphere will not change until Marro is removed from her position. We need to restore our school to the happy wonderful gem it used to be.

Our school was the only bright attraction for people to want to live in Mullica.Without a good school,we have nothing left but the "Dump".
The Board of Ed should listen to the people and fire Marro before even more damage can be done.

I'm printing just two comments from the Press article because they express a small bit of what is going on in our school.

Brenda Marro is the superintendent of mullica's k-8 school and Greenbank. She is the worst thing that's ever happened to us. We have three veteran teachers retiring this year, one teacher who is three years away from retiring with full benefits is taking the cut and leaving. It's Feb, we are on our third music teacher. Over the summer we lost our very much loved elem principal Mr Dugan, 3 middle school teachers and both speech teachers. We have an advanced math teacher out on a medical- in her place they put a health/PE TEACHER - no math cert. people with math certs applied and were not called back. You tell me what's happening to our school. I very much love our teachers and staff. I now question the administration who I have completely lost faith in. Our community is strong. We will fix this

I'd like to add, when she suspended Kelly, no letter went home to the parents. They found out she was gone, because her students went home crying for her asking their moms when their teacher was coming back. They did coloring worksheets for one month and her class fell behind. Parents demanded a meeting with Brenda the super and she let them go unheard until they threatened to go to the boe with a letter. She set a meeting for that same day at 4:00 knowing the notice was short, just so she could say she did. Parents showed up anyway demanding to know what was going on and asking to see the curriculum. There was none and it seemed the substitute had no support from admin. I know two people who have children presently in her class. They are outraged. Why would a teacher be suspended, and the parents not even notified??? My daughter had Kelly 5 years ago in second grade, a position she held for 16 years. I was a parent volunteer and saw first hand how Kelly teaches and runs her class. She is a fabulous teacher who absolutely loves her job and her students as her own kids. I feel sorry her kindergarteners, who were totally robbed of a wonderful teacher and start to their primary education. Brenda should be ashamed of herself and she should resign

This is so sad.I really can't comprehend why our school board comprised of local people would allow Marro and her minions to destroy a great school that this community worked so hard to support.
Are they not paying attention? Do they not understand what's happening? Do they just vote without realizing the consequences of their actions?
I'm hoping that a state agency will investigate this administration.
The parents should write complaint letters to the commissioner and tell him of all the irregularities and conditions being brought to our school.
How about a petition to the Commissioner listing all the changes and breaks in procedures and laws caused by the Superintendent?

The principal and the superintendent need to be investigated by a state agency.
