MTEA vote "NO CONFIDENCE" in Marro

MULLICA TOWNSHIP — Mullica Township Education Association members voted no-confidence in Superintendent Brenda Harring-Marro on Wednesday, effectively calling for her removal.
The vote of 93 percent no-confidence by teachers and educational support staff, tenured and nontenured, was spurred by Harring-Marro’s decision to pursue tenure charges against kindergarten teacher Kelly Mascio, said MTEA President Barbara Rheault.

“The members of the MTEA have been frustrated and dismayed by the superintendent’s serious and disturbing lack of judgment,” Rheault said of her group’s more than 100 members. She said Harring-Marro’s actions “have hurt our school and our community.”

To help Mascio, Rheault said the MTEA is planning a fundraising beef and beer and auction at JD’s Pub & Grille in Smithville, Galloway Township, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. April 13. The MTEA is also selling T-shirts in support of Mascio. For more information contact Rheault at bbrheault@cs.com or visit the MTEA Facebook page.

Marro stated that she works for the children, not the MTEA.I say she works for us since we pay her salary.
I vote no-confidence,too. Now what? Will the Board of Education listen to the MTEA and the community and make some very needed changes?

Marro doesn't seem to be very concerned about the "small group".
If there have been any false or misleading statements made, they have come from her and her principal buddy.

I'd like to know why Matt Mazzoni was called into this matter. Why didn't the elementary school principal,Ms. Middleton, handle the situation?

I would just like to say after reading all the posts which are starting to dwindle and witnessing first hand the theme at the last BOE meeting, Ms. Brenda Harring-Marro and the rest of the BOE members could care less what anyone has to say or what they write for that matter.

Even when the mayor got up and spoke and requested that Ms. Mascio be put back to work, his request was essentially ignored. I did witness the mayor and Ms. Harring-Marro talking in private after the meeting in the library, but no change in the outcome.

The thing that gets me in this whole affair is it has been made public and backed up by documents that the principal Mr. Mazzoni gave false information of the incident to the police and DYFS and the Police Chief has went on record with this, yet Mr. Mazzoni still enjoys his job everyday. No doubt his report started this Firestorm that ALL taxpayers of Mullica Township will have to pay.

The BOE had an opportunity to end this last week and failed to do so at the guidance of Mr. Will Donio. I too feel very strongly about bringing Ms. Mascio back to work NOW. We all must face reality in this now, it is in the hands of the State which will take months for a rendering. Once they make the decision, it's on to the next round, Administrative Law Judge which will take at least a year, then onto the appeals which will take another several years. And this does not include the civil suit.

In the end Ms. Mascio will win, but she may not return to the class room where she wants to be and should be. This is just how this system works and it is not fair to innocent people.

Yes, the people may get rid of Harring-Marro but that will cost the taxpayers of Mullica Township as well.

I read where the Commissioner of Education can throw out the case right now.If he sends it to an arbitrator, that person has 4 months to make a decision on the case.

I hope that Mascio is not becoming the political scapegoat for Christie's new tenure laws.

The charges were certified on Feb.19th and sent to the Commissioner on the 26th.There was nothing anybody could say or do at the last board meeting to change the outcome. It was too late.

I do believe that Marro and Mazzoni should be removed from their positions. The money spent by the taxpayers now will prevent the destruction of the school and future lawsuits the actions of these two might cause.

I have to wonder what would Larry Angel would have to say about all this and would he have been on this much earlier to bring it to the towns attention?

Re 12:17pm
I have to wonder why the Teacher's union waited so long to take action.Maybe this whole mess could have been stopped back in October.

I am really surprised that Mazzoni and Harring-Marro hasn't tried to fire Barbara Rheault for her intervention and bringing this matter to the forefront.

The attitude of this board is such as it would not make a difference what Larry would have said or done if he were alive today. Harring-Marro's mind was made up on what to do with Ms. Mascio back on the day of the incident.

I just hope the citizen's of Mullica Township do not give up the good fight and keep the pressure up.

I am happy to see the signs "We Support Kelly" spreading across the township! How do you get one? Now it's time for another sign to start popping up, "Marro Must Go"! As far as Barb Rheault is concerned, she is my superhero!

While we must remove Marro and Mazzoni, the heart of the problem is our inept, incompetent and clueless school board! If the school board did their job, this would all have been nipped in the bud. Instead, our delusional ding-dongs we call board members have not only stood idly by while Marro has been unleashing her reign of terror, but they have been complicit in our schools destruction. Every board member must be voted out! Every Mullican should attend board meetings and continue to apply pressure to each and every one of them, both publicly and privately. This group of individuals has cost all of us taxpayers a lot of money. And they continue to bleed us dry with their terrible decisions.

Hey Mullica Man,while you were flying around the universe the Blog got taken over and it is now G rated. You better watch your p's & q's and "adjectives".It's great to see you're still keeping an eye on Mullica.

Mullica Man just returned from a Crimean fact-finding trip for Barack and was shocked to read about all of the destruction of our school while I was away. Mullicans must unite, if not for the children and their future, then for their own property values! The best and fastest way to destroy property values is to have a terrible school. Marro must go for any hope of healing the wounds of her terror. Teachers morale at the school is at an all-time low. Low employee morale results in inferior performance which translates into substandard products and services. The quality of our schools and our environment are critical for the sustained growth of our property values. Even Mullica Man hopes to retire one day.

This was a comment in response to the AC Press article. Did anyone know of this situation? Was it eventually brought before the Board of Ed?

"You are talking about a so-called leader who condoned and hid from the Board an employee illegally collecting unemployment. Had the Board paid attention to those facts presented Brenda would have been gone 2 years ago! This cost the State and Mullica taxpayers money but was swept under the rug. She is corrupt and SHE needs to go now!!"

With regard to the no confidence vote, Marro stated,

“In my opinion, this action is no more than a reflection of a small group of individuals…"

Doesn't this "small group" represent approx. 93% of the total number of people she supervises? I wonder what, in Marro's opinion, would constitute a large group? I suppose we should consider ourselves lucky that she doesn't teach math.

Regardless of whether you oversee a school, a yacht manufacturer, a widget-making firm, or a Fortune 500 company, when 93% of your workforce has lost confidence in you and your team as leaders, it is time for you to be replaced!

Would any of us entrust our children's medical care to a hospital where 93% of the staff lacked confidence in the person/team overseeing its operations? Of course not! Then why must we entrust our children's education to a school where 93% of the staff lack confidence in the person/team overseeing its operations?

Wed. March 19 (next Wed.) at 7:00pm for the purpose of presenting the budget to the public and the regular meeting.

It keeps changing so if you want to express your viewpoint, keep checking the schedule or call the school's District office to ensure it's not moved to another date.

"Marro and Mazzoni must go" seems an appropriate consequence of the lie perpetuated by them for 5 months. Her contract is up for renewal; say it now or she will be automatically renewed whether or not you vote out this BOE. One BOE member did vote for Kelly. It must have been Mr Stollenwerk.

nursejoy said...

I'd also like to say that the Union did stand up to Administration before October. I am sure they asked for a lower sanction than tenure charges but the DYFUS and other investigators didn't finish until late in the year. Then the vote happened by the BOE rubber stamp except for one brave member who stood alone for Kelly Mascio.
Someone said that perhaps Dr Marro is using this as a test case to make a name, a reputation for being a hard administrator and moving on to a bigger job. Can you say Superintendent of Greater Egg?
Then Matt Mazzoni could be the next Mullica Superintendent... Neither of these people deserve to be in their current positions of trust. They lied to the Police and didn't correct it in 5 months. They have ensured that many of their "staff" have quit and most are too afraid to speak out. She has brought on 25% more into administration (STEM COORDINATOR AND A CURRICULUM CORRIDINATOR)when we have less than 800 students (with the Greenbank additions) and 10 years ago had 950 students.

Dr Marro wants to be the Christie test case and Mullica will pay the price both in the lawsuit damages and the LONG TERM damage to our School, Students and Staff.Morale has been low for 3 years. People have spoken up and nothing has been changed. People quit. Nothing happened until it happened to Kelly. Ask where have all the teachers who made the school tops in English, Math and Science gone?

In regards to comment posted at 10:00am,The Board of Education's next meeting is on the calendar for March 26th. There has been no notification of a change of date to the 19th as of 3/13/14.

The BOE is only required to give 48 hr notice of a meeting change. They must present the budget before the 20th.

This was never brought to the Board in a public forum...

Mrs. Middleton was attending a workshop on Sept. 30th and Mazzoni was "supervising" both the primary and middle school in her absence.

RE 9:27 pm
I have to wonder how differently things would have been handled if Mrs. Middleton was present.I know there would not have been a false police report given.

IMPORTANT
The MTEA has announced that the Board of Education has changed the date of the next meeting to 3/19/14 at 7:00pm
Poster 10:00 am had correct information.

Sounds like we can't get the change in Administration no matter what we do or think. The BOE is totally in her pocket anyway.

Anonymous said...

The "small" number was 93% of all staff. Not small at all. Sounds deafening. Read the Thomas Hardy quote today it seems appropriate.
Time for BOE to stop rubber stamping the Superintendents decisions and rethink her contract and Matt Mazzonis after their poor personnel judgement, their lies to the Police that were permitted to stand for 5 months about a fine teacher.
This Board lacks judgement and doesn't fulfill it's role. They will be defeated at the ballot box. But unfortunately the two Administrators have done a great deal of damage that must be corrected. Since they wanted Mrs Mascio fired they should suffer the same fate as they should adhere to a higher ethical standard

To the question as to why Mazzoni handled this and not Mrs. Middleton, she was absent that day, so he was acting principal over the entire school.
Please don't worry, we will never give up on this until we get Kelly back in her classroom.
We are a strong united community, and I am proud to live here.
Mrs. Rheault is my superhero too!!
Stay strong Mullica... changes are coming

Tonight's BOE meeting attendees expressed their concerns and presented a petition for the Superintendent's contract not to be renewed. Mrs Masaccio will have to wait in a purgatory created by this Administration. Who will ensure they are given the same treatment they have exacted ?

Anonymous said...

Mrs Rheault spoke very effectively.
Taxpayers will pay for a 25% increase in ADMINISTRATIVE STAFF including secretarial support for new hires.
Teaching hires: Moved Kelly from 2nd grade to kindergarten and a 5th grade teacher to 2nd to cover Mrs Mascio. We hired a new 3rd grade teacher. Why didn't the 3rd grade teacher go to Kindergarten, The 5th grade teacher to 3rd and leave Kelly in 2nd? Very interesting, but not in the plan. Then on a day when MAPS testing (a planned activity) the aide is in and out of the class, the MS Principal blows this up and makes the Police Report (in error) that stands for 5 months. Hmmm.
Privatizing the Cafeteria was done to "save" money, low wages to Part-timers from Mullica must have saved a lot. We get the Superintendent and Principal a raise with the GREENBANK stipends and the people on the 2nd floor who "help". Privatization of custodial staff will be next. But we pay top dollar for the excellently rated Superintendent and Principal. Danielson rubrics employed give experienced teachers "2"'s but I am sure the inflated Administrative ratings are all TOP NOTCH> After all Matt Mazzoni wants to be the next Superintendent when Dr Marro moves up the food chain.

Even parents received the Marro controlling culture of fear. Those who contacted her to go on the record in their support of Mrs Mascio and sent emails in February had the unfortunate experience of being told that the Superintendent contacted their employers. They now know what teachers and support staff have known for several years.

I think we need to bring Mr Goldberg back and ask him to help in the search for a new Superintendent and heal the damage Dr Marro has done. He has the skills and the good will equity we need at this time.
