Countywide Tax Assessments Proposed

Assembly man Vince Mazzeo on Thursday proposed legislation that he said would bring property relief to Atlantic County through the creation of a countywide system for property tax assessments.

Under the program, all property would be reassessed every three years using county personnel instead of expensive consultants, which Mazzeo said would keep assessed values true to market values and eliminate the need for mass appraisals.

"By expanding the program to Atlantic County, we can save taxpayers millions a year and streamline assessments so that every town gets an identical and fair process,” he said. “Atlantic County is an ideal candidate for this program because of Atlantic City’s unique status as the only municipality in the state where casino gaming is permitted, resulting in special valuation problems for a sizable portion of the county ratable base.”

I'd like to know more about what the identical, fair process would be for every town. It would be impossible to rate a 4 bedroom oceanfront house with the same criteria as a 4 bedroom on 5 acres in the woods. I don't think every 3 years is necessary.
Instead of paying for just the reval in Mullica, which will be hundreds of thousands of $, we will be paying forever in County taxes for the revals of every other town in the county.
Which is better for us, I don't know without more info.

I wonder if the county will make everyone pay all taxes directly to them and eliminate all local tax depts.
