Commissioner To Decide Next Step On Charges

Kindergarten teacher Kelly Mascio is now suspended without pay since tenure charges against her have been certified by Mullica's B.O.E. and sent to the state education commissioner.

NJEA field representative Vincent Perma said the commissioner could throw out the charges when he gets them rather than assigning the case to an arbitrator.

If assigned to an arbitrator a decision must be made within about 4 months according to TEACHNJ tenure reform law.

Mascio's health insurance and other benefits are protected during this period.  MTEA President Barbara Rheault said the union would try to help Mascio through a fundraiser.
