Mullica Court Rumors

Reported in the Minutes of the March 26,2013 Regular Mullica Township Committee Meeting under the Public Discussion segment:

 Ms. Beth Schroeder-Buonsante asked what is the status of the Municipal Court, in reference to rumors of possible consolidation and possible time-line
.
The Mayor responded that they are exploring opportunities with another Township for a shared services agreement with the Municipal Court, with a possible savings of $40,000 -$60,000 a year, no formal action has been taken, the communication is ongoing, and if it does not happen by July the savings would not be beneficial.

Ms. Schroeder-Buonsante asked the Committee to consider the long-time employee who is also a resident, as well as many other considerations.  She thanked the Committee for considering tax savings, but noted once we give away a service it is difficult to regain it back.  Ms. Schroeder-Buonsante referenced a report by the NJ Courts, which has a lot of considerations and noted that some of these shared services fail within the first year.

The Mayor reported he had a session today with the Township's CFO and Chief of Police and more questions and concerns were raised that need to be addressed

Ms. Schroeder- Bounsante requested that all of Mullica's interests are best represented, not just the cost benefit and that the Committee does not rush to judgement.
