AC women identified as victims of Mullica crash, police suspect two fled scene

From the Press of Atlantic City, April 1, 2010-update

The two women killed in a two-car crash in Mullica Township Wednesday night were identified as Christina Rivera, 29, and Belinda Dillihay, 61, both of Atlantic City, Atlantic County Prosecutor Ted Housel said in a statement.

A 13-year-old boy, Dillahay's grandson, was sitting in the backseat of Rivera's car and is seriously injured.

At about 10:20 p.m. last night, Housel said, Rivera was driving on Route 30 when a Jeep Wrangler struck Rivera's car head-on one mile from Elwood Road.

Rivera and Dillihay were pronounced dead at the scene, while the juvenile was taken to Cooper Memorial Hospital in Camden County with broken legs and a broken arm.

A person in the Wrangler, Ottoway Harrison, 29, of Egg Harbor City, was taken to the AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Division, for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Authorities believe there may have been another person, possibly two, in the Wrangler who fled the scene, Housel said.

Mullica Township Detective Sergeant John Thompson responded to the crash. Prosecutor's Office Detective Kevin Hincks, Sgt. Chuck DeFebbo and Detective James Rosiello were called to the scene and are conducting the investigation under the supervision of Lt. Bruce DeShields.

Atlantic County Medical Examiner Dr. Hydow Park performed autopsies on Rivera, of the 1800 block of Ontario Avenue in Atlantic City, and Dillihay, of 1330 Mediterranean Avenue in Atlantic City, and determined that both women died of multiple internal injuries.

What a sad week for Mullica Township. Three innocent lives lost due to horrible traffic accidents.

It's very heartbreaking and my heart goes out to the family members of all three victims and the poor grandson who was seriously injured in the second accident.

On the CBS3.com video, the people that lived by the accident site said a woman came riding up on a bike and claimed that it was her Wrangler and that there were 3 people in it. She would be able to identify the people who were in her car unless those three people stole her Wrangler right before the accident.

I wonder if Harrison is being held as a material witness. The story didn't say.
