Mullica still alive in Eastern World Series

The Mullica Township Maniacs won two games and lost one Tuesday at the National Softball Association’s Eastern World Series double-elimination tournament in Roanoke, Va.

Brigitte Garvey, Chelsey Peterson, Nicole Johnson, and Kelly Lupton had two hits each in the first game, as the Maniacs beat the Vienna Starz of Virginia 5-0. Lauren Block added a double for the Maniacs, a 14-and-under team. Winning pitcher Marlee Seymour pitched a two-hit shutout.

Mullica lost its second game, 4-1 to the Delaware Swoop. Block went 2-for-3 with a double and Taylor Tessler homered.

In the third game, Mullica defeated the Ashburn (Va.) Shooting Stars 11-0. Bridgett Allesandrini and Anna DiPietro each had two hits, and Garvey and Lupton each had a double. Sandy Thames had a two-run single for the Maniacs. Seymour got the win with five strikeouts. She allowed just one hit.

Mullica Township faces Northampton (Va.) at 9 a.m. today.
