Some of this information is excerpted from Newsweek which had a cover story on the value of exercise recently. Colon cancer is about 40% more likely to occur in a person who does not exercise. People who do not exercise have an almost 60% greater risk of developing osteoporosis than those who exercise. Women already being treated for breast cancer cut the rate or recurrence and death in half by exercising. Exercise actually slows cognitive decline related to aging and helps stave off dementia. Type 2 diabetes occurs far less often men who exercise. A lack of exercise results in a 45% increase in coronary artery disease.
With Spring here what better time to join the gym. (Disclaimer: I am a lifeguard at Hollywood East gym in Hammonton.) The Hammonton gym where I work is offering a really good deal...a year’s membership for $37 + tax (that comes to $39.59 a month) conditional on electrical withdrawal. This includes a 3 week free trainer orientation which starts April 9th if one signs up now. And of course let me push the pool, which is 20 meters and kept at 84 degrees...Never crowded and often we have lively political discussions. The benefits of exercise in terms of sleeping, and just feeling good are well documented and this is a great price to encourage you to come in and get in shape for the summer and feel good and look better. You owe yourself this opportunity for a longer life and better health and just feeling good.
