49 Acres Burned by AC Airport

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP — A woods fire burned 49 acres early Sunday off Wrangleboro Road near Atlantic City International Airport.
The call came in about 3:15 a.m. and New Jersey Forest Fire Service personnel from Section C7 and the Cologne Volunteer Fire Company responded, said Bill Donnelly, Forest Fire Service warden of Division C. The fire was under control by 8 a.m., he said.
Wrangleboro Road was shut for a short time, he said. Later Sunday, a section of burned trees and brush was visible on the north side of Wrangleboro west of Tilton Road, with a fire break plowed down to bare soil on either side.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation Sunday, Donnelly said. There were no injuries and no structures were burned, he said.
Anyone with information about the fire can call the state Forest Fire Service at 609-292-2977 or township police at 609-625-2211.
