MAYS LANDING — Defiantly claiming, “I am not a murderer,” Sergio DeRosa was sentenced to 30 years in prison for the fatal 2014 shooting of his wife in their Mullica Township home.
DeRosa,
59, was given the statutory minimum of a 30-year state prison term for
murder Tuesday morning by Atlantic County Superior Court Judge John R.
Rauh. He must serve 30 years in prison before he is eligible for parole.
After the sentencing, Vetrecin, one of
Lynn DeRosa’s six living cousins, thanked the Prosecutor’s Office,
Mullica Township police, the jury, witnesses and judge on behalf of the
Vetrecin and Luty families. Luty was Lynn DeRosa’s maiden name.
DeRosa has 45 days to appeal his conviction. Cohen told the judge DeRosa would need a public defender to file his appeal.
“I’m hoping it (DeRosa’s conviction) will get turned over on appeal,” Cohen said after leaving the courtroom.
