TRENTON – Just one day after arriving home from helping the flood victims in Texas, NJ Task Force 1 received orders from FEMA Thursday to deploy to Florida in anticipation of Hurricane Irma, announced Governor Chris Christie.
A
FEMA Urban Search and Rescue Type 1 Team, which consists of 80 team
members, three tractor trailers, two box trucks, five sprinter vans, two
command vehicles and an F-250 towing vehicle, were on route Friday to
Eglin Air Force Base.
Six boats, a water support trailer and a fleet service truck will also be deployed.
“New
Jersey is well-equipped and ready to assist in handling any crisis that
arises in the wake of Hurricane Irma,” said Gov. Christie. “When our
state was in the midst of an emergency during Superstorm Sandy, other
states responded with the help we needed and now, we will be there for
our friends in Florida, as we have been for those in Texas and Louisiana
still reeling from Hurricane Harvey.”
More than 40 trucks and 130 members of the New Jersey National Guard’s 253rd Transportation Company also deployed from Cape May Court House to Florida Friday to help state officials.
