MAYS LANDING — In a brief hearing Thursday afternoon, Dr. James Kauffman of Linwood pleaded not guilty in Atlantic County Superior Court to weapons and obstruction charges related to an armed stand-off in June at his Egg Harbor Township medical office.
Kauffman, 68, appeared
in an orange jumpsuit, his hair completely white, before Judge Bernard
DeLury for his post-indictment arraignment. Kauffman wore thick-framed
glasses and carried a copy of John Grisham's "Sycamore Row." He was
represented by attorney Louis Barbone of Jacobs and Barbone of Atlantic
City.
