Thank you in advance for supporting the Latin students of Cedar Creek.
As you may know, the Board of Education has stated its intent to cut the Latin program from the 2017/2018 curriculum. This is deeply disappointing as students already in the program will be denied the opportunity to advance to an upper level language class.
Cutting
this program denies the students of Cedar Creek the same opportunities
offered at our sister schools, Absegami and Oakcrest. It may affect
these students' GPAs since level 3 and 4 language courses will become
Honors courses next year. Colleges want students who have proven they
can handle the rigors of advanced language courses.
Please advocate for our students by signing the petition below.
You can also communicate directly with the Board by sending a letter to
Ms Carol Houck 1824 Dr Dennis Forman Dr, Mays Landing, NJ 08330.
(In
case you'd like to address your letter to the members who represent
your city or township, I've included their names below in the
postscript.)
Please make every effort to
attend the upcoming board meeting on Monday, 10 April. It will be held
in Cedar Creek's preforming arts center at 7pm.
To show
your support of Cedar Creek's Latin students, you can wear a RED or
MAROON shirt. We want to stand out to let the board know we do not
approve of this move.
If you would like to personally deliver your statement to the
board, you will have an opportunity to do so at the end of the meeting.
You may also read a statement to the board as a parent, student, or on
behalf of another student. A handful of brief statements would send a powerful message.
Sincerely,
Kim Koering

Cedar Creek High School
Our
students deserve every opportunity to thrive. They certainly deserve to
be given the same opportunities as their peers in the district. Please
feel free to forward this email and share the petition with anyone who
will support our students: members of the community, friends at Absegami
and Oakcrest, former Latin students, members of the press, and through
social media.
On behalf of the Cedar Creek Latin students, I thank you.
Sincerely,
Kim Koering
