GEHR Tax Increase

GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP — The Greater Egg Harbor Regional school board approved a preliminary 2017-18 budget at its meeting at Absegami High School Monday that will trim programs and raise property taxes.

Mullica Township will be hit the hardest, with an estimate annual increase of $79.50 per $100,000 of assessed property value. The annual increase in Egg Harbor City will be $11.70 per year, in Galloway Township it will be $10.90 per year and in Hamilton Township it will be $6.60 per year.

Why is there such a huge difference here? Does anybody know why we're taking such a large increase?

Reduction in busing for after school activities also. Mullica Township does have a representative on the GEHR School District, I do believe Mr. Cheatham is also Vice-President of the board. Have the teachers contracts been settled yet?

So let me see, we are getting banged for County school taxes, there's no doubt we are going to have an increase in our County and Mullica Twp. taxes, and there will be an increase in our local school taxes. It seems that our local and county politicians could care less about the people in this area who are really struggling to get by. There are a lot of people who are just happy to have a job and haven't seen a raise in their pay in 5 years, unlike some who work with a guaranteed contract and receive a raise every year. I don't care what anyone says, holding a special election (which costs the taxpayers money) to approve something that was defeated back in November was just wrong. It's really getting old how the people " who know" keep telling us it's a safety issue, or it's going to save us money down the road. Kind of like 10 years ago when we put the big addition on the school to handle a 1000 students and I think we struggle to get 800 students. It's time for our politicians and School Board members to start caring about us taxpayers. The well is going to run dry sooner then you think

Politicians and employees in govt know that taxes are always going to be certain funding for expenses . Someone cant pay they get judgements against them and foreclosures. Property gets sold to someone who will pay and so it goes. Most of our township committee by their age probably has senior freeze on increasing their taxes . Need more watchdogs who go to meetings, do research, and confront elected officials . Need politicians who also manage and review their departments and do their homework rather than get on power trips. Look at AC as a worse example seems event the State is having a terrible time trying to cut the budget when it comes to fighting very powerful and vocal unions. I dont see any hope here at all.

"We're going to stick it to you cause we can". Way to look out for the people in the Township.
