Cedar Creek Pirates Win Semifinal -Go On To Championship Game

EGG HARBOR CITY – The explosive Cedar Creek High School Pirates thrive on big plays in big moments, especially at playoff time.
They needed every one of those big plays, on both sides of the ball, to get past plucky Willingboro Saturday for a chance to defend their South Jersey Group II football championship.
Bo and Malachi Melton each caught lightning-strike touchdown passes late in the first half, Pat Moran kicked two field goals, including the eventual game-winner, and Michael Gulig made the biggest play of all: stopping Willingboro’s Amir Murray on a two-point conversion with less than a minute left to give the Pirates a thrilling 27-26 victory over Willingboro in a South Jersey Group II semifinal Saturday.

“That’s the playoffs for you, we like to make it exciting,” said Cedar Creek coach Tim Watson.
The second-seeded Pirates, the defending Group II champion, will face a familiar opponent for the championship: undefeated and top-seeded West Deptford, the team they beat in last year’s title game. The two teams will meet for the third time since 2012 with a South Jersey title at stake the weekend of Dec. 2-3 at Rowan University.
