Roar To The Shore

As an autumn reception of sorts, the Roar to the Shore motorcycle rally has evolved into one of the largest free rallies in the northeast. Sited in the Wildwoods and a manageable riding distance from East Coast cities, the 20th annual Roar to the Shore takes place Thursday, Sept. 8, through Sunday, Sept. 11, at various locations in the Wildwoods.

Roughly 80,000 motorcyclists are expected. The rally features a variety of entertainment such as stunt shows and live bands, hands-on activities such as a custom-motorcycle contest and a “light up the night” decorated bike display; a biker-babe contest and poker run for cash prizes; and the popular Rubber Ducky Boardwalk Ride and Raffle, in which one ticket holder wins a new Harley-Davidson. Raffle tickets benefit the Wildwood-based non-profit Lunch with Lynch, which provides grants and special educational opportunities for local school kids.

So, when the ride is as important as the destination, check out the following restaurants and bars for hanging out and keeping fueled up.

Sweetwater Marina and Riverdeck, located where the Sweetwater Casino used to be, has a full schedule of events and live music throughout September. Hidden deep in the Pinelands, it sits on the banks of the Mullica River. With tents, picnic tables, a covered tiki bar, good food and live music, the Sweetwater Marina and Riverdeck is the perfect destination for finishing a long ride. 2780 7th Ave., Sweetwater, 609-668-1545, SW-Marina.com
