Peace Pilgrim Celebration

EGG HARBOR CITY — The city will commemorate the life of local resident Mildred Lisette Norman, later known as Peace Pilgrim for her efforts to promote peace around the country.
The ninth annual Peace Pilgrim Celebration will be held Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 17 to 18 at Peace Pilgrim Park on London Avenue.

Peace Pilgrim walked across the U.S. for more than 27 years spreading her message of peace: “Overcome evil with good, falsehood with truth, and hatred with love.” She crossed the continent seven times, walking until given shelter and fasting until given food, and vowed to remain a wanderer until mankind learned the way of peace. She died in 1981.
The event begins Saturday at 9 a.m. with yoga, followed by a 2-mile Intergenerational Walk for Peace at 10 a.m. Registration opens at 8:30 a.m. A suggested donation of $5 is requested and includes an organic cotton T-shirt designed by students at Cedar Creek High School while supplies last.
Following the walk, Egg Harbor City, a designated International City of Peace, will join 114 cities and villages around the world for the second annual Global Feast for Peace. The potluck picnic begins at 11:30 a.m. Attendees should bring a vegan, vegetarian or sustainable dish to share.
Activities continue throughout the afternoon with entertainment by DJ Chris Zipfel of E-Max Entertainment, vendors from socially conscious organizations, tie-dye T-shirt making and other activities.

The day ends with a drum circle at 2 p.m. led by Dave Shaman.
