Atlantic City Electric received state approval to raise rates by about 4 percent, which will cost the average residential customer about $7 more per month, the Board of Public Utilities said Wednesday.
The
average customer uses 1,000 kilowatt hours per month. Atlantic City
Electric said the average customer’s monthly bill will increase from
$181.20 to $188.25.
The electric company said the rate increase will go into effect immediately.
Atlantic City Electric pushed for a 6.3 percent increase, which would have made the average customer pay about $11.73 more.
The
state, which has to approve rate increases, negotiated for a smaller
hike, according to a statement from the Board of Public Utilities.
But
another rate increase may come sooner rather than later. The electric
company, in phase two of negotiations with the Board of Utilities, will
push to secure the rest of the funding for planned improvements.Entire story at
