You may have noticed an odd number of people congregating on the streets or in public places, looking like they are taking pictures of random things. They are actually playing Pokémon GO on their phones, and capturing little digital animals. In fact, more people are playing Pokémon right now than using Twitter……..Welcome to the world of "augmented reality"
The world has gone Pokémon Go mad. Catching new ones, training new ones, or defending your gym. Please be careful if you are playing Pokémon go. Officers have encountered individuals walking in the middle of the street to catch Pokémon. Here are a few tips from the Mullica Township Police Department.
1. Look up – be aware of your surroundings. Are you about to step into traffic? Are you going to crash into someone or something? You could end more than just your game.
2. It is very easy for any stranger to know your gathering spots. Make sure you go with a group, and that younger kids tell parents or another adult where they’re going.
3. Say no to distracted game playing – don’t play while riding your bike, skateboard, scooter, hover board or while driving a motor vehicle.
4. Mullica has lots of public space. Do not go on or in private property.
5. Poke stops are appearing at landmarks, churches, post offices etc... Use some common sense when you are stopping at these places. It may look strange, or even suspicious to people who don't know what you are doing. Especially if you are hanging around businesses after hours. Don't be surprised if one of our officers stops to investigate your activities.
6. Parents: don't send your young children out to play this game unsupervised. If you want them to play, go with them. Make it a family event! Remember: Mullica Township’s curfew ordinance #110-1a. (http://ecode360.com/9423503?highlight=curfew)
