NJ Ticketing Off-Road Vehicles

Authorities in southern New Jersey are cracking down on illegal off-roading in a push to stop destruction in the Pinelands.
The Courier-Post reports that state officials have issued more than 100 citations to illegal off-roaders since Feb. 20.

More than 25 volunteers joined Environmental Protection Department officials last weekend in putting signs at 65 entrances to the Pine Barrens forest of Wharton. Crews also put up several dozen signs on trees in the 125,000-acre forest warning of motor vehicle bans in some of the most environmentally sensitive regions.

Areas in Shamong and Washington Township, along with the Public Service Electric and Gas Co. transmission right of way in Waterford, have seen more damage recently. Utility officials say right of damage has cost $2.5 million in repairs.
