EHC Police Chief To Retire 9/1

EGG HARBOR CITY — Police Chief John McColgan, criticized in an Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office report as failing to properly run the department, has put in his paperwork to retire Sept. 1, according to the city.

McColgan makes $110,782 per year to run the department of 13 officers and another $3,875 to act as the dispatch coordinator, according to city records. He has not returned calls for comment.
On Thursday night, Mayor Lisa Jiampetti and the City Council promoted Sgt. Dylan Hutton to lieutenant.

Before the meeting, Jiampetti said Hutton is running the department.
“Lt. Hutton is the officer in charge,” said Jiampetti. But she said she could not elaborate further on what McColgan is doing.

City labor attorney Bill Blaney has said he could not comment on personnel matters, but “we are taking this very seriously.”
Chief Financial Officer Jodi Kahn said Thursday that McColgan applied April 8 for retirement effective Sept. 1.
